Guidalberto is the second wine of Tenuta San Guido estate in Tuscany, the winemakers behind the famous wine Sassicaia. Among the reasons behind the decision of the estate to embark in the production of this wine, it’s their desire to experiment with Merlot, a grape variety they never managed to work with before. Also, the estate wished to limit the yields dedicated to Sassicaia to ensure an even higher quality. Guidalberto was released first in 2000 and since then has grown in popularity, representing nowadays almost 50% of the total sales worldwide of Tenuta San Guido.
On the label of Guidalberto is depicted the oratory dedicated to San Guido, the 11th century Saint the estate was named after.
Specifically, the 2017 vintage is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot:Â some other vintages might have a little percentage of Sangiovese, like for example in 2001. We suggest to pair a Guidalberto with beef steak, lamb or hard cheese, on a casual weekday you want to treat yourself or bringing it along to a relaxed dinner party.
