The 2014 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir is a red wine from Otago, a wine region in New Zealand. The estate, Burn Cottage, is owned by the Sauvage family since 2002 and in a relatively short time they have positioned themselves as one of the best in New Zealand.
This Pinot Noir confirms the trend, having receiving accolades the world over including an impressive 97 points by Bob Campbell MW and a score of 96 points from the magazine Decanter. The 2014 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir displays floral aromas and flavours of red fruit and sweet oak, with spicy and balsamic hints.
The label is one of the most interesting we have seen so far. “The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily” is a fairy tale by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe published in 1795: the story revolves around the crossing and bridging of a river, represents the divide between the outer life of the senses and the ideal aspirations of the human being. The story has been inspirational for Rudolf Steiner, founder of the biodynamic approach in agriculture, influencing his approach as the “ideal human” and in contrast to practices based on chemicals and driven by short term economic gain.
