The 2005 Clos de l’Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru is a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). It is produced by Clos de l’Oratoire, a relatively young estate in Bordeaux acquired by German wine entrepreneur Stephan von Niepperg in the early 1990s. The vineyards are located on the north-east slope of the glorious appellation of St Emilion and, as the climate is slightly cooler, it’s ideal for growing Merlot.
Merlot gives to the wine a rounded and opulent profile, while Cabernet Franc delivers power and complexity.
The 2005 Clos de l’Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wine has been vinified in wooden vats for thirty days and aged for 18 months, 80% of it being exposed to new French oak. The aromas and flavours likely to be spot while tasting this wine are blackberry, cassis and chocolate, which we would enjoy with beef, whether that being a stew, a steak or a juicy burger.
